The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world's largest technical non-profit organization. Its goal is to foster technological development for the benefit of humanity.

The IEEE is composed of professionals from industry and academia worldwide, working on a wide range of electronics-related topics. The Institute's importance is highlighted by its organization of conferences and scientific journals and its role in defining standards, such as the IEEE 802.11 standard for WiFi.

Students can also participate in the IEEE through Student Branches. Within the Branch, there are Chapters that address more specific topics by directly relating to specialized IEEE Societies.

For example, at the UTFSM Branch, we have a joint Chapter of the three IEEE microelectronics societies: the Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS), the Circuits And Systems Society (CAS), and the Electron Devices Society (EDS).
